The Netherlands may soon send the first F-16 fighters to Ukraine, as the necessary export license has already been obtained.
This was announced to the House of Representatives by the Dutch Minister of Defense Kaisa Olongren, writes De Telegraaf.
"The Netherlands will transfer 24 F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainians, who desperately need these planes to defend themselves against Russian airstrikes," the report said.
Journalists note that the House of Representatives will not reveal the time of sending the American fighter jets, it remains a secret.
Four countries have already officially pledged to transfer US F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Ukrainian pilots continue to be trained on the territory of partner countries.
Belgium announced the delivery of 30 aircraft, Denmark - 19, and Norway said that the Ukrainian Air Force will receive fighters with newer weapons from them.
The Netherlands will send 24 F-16 aircraft to Ukraine. Olongren previously said the first fighters should arrive this summer.
Russia has issued a warning to the West over Belgium's planned delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, which Sergei Lavrov described as a "signal action by NATO in the nuclear sphere".
The first group of Ukrainian pilots has completed their F-16 fighter training in the USA.
