Russia and Belarus will sign an agreement with which they will guarantee security in the use of nuclear weapons, reports "Kommersant".

This is expected to happen in December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Maxim Rizhenkov announced.

The agreement will enter into force within the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State between Russia and Belarus. The document was signed in 1999, so its 25th anniversary is in the current year 2024.

According to Rizhenkov, the principles of using nuclear weapons will be spelled out in the agreement.

Maxim Rizhenkov gave a speech to students of the Academy of Management of the President of Belarus. In it, he noted that the interaction between Minsk and Moscow has reached a record level, especially between the heads of the two countries and governments.

"We plan to sign an interstate agreement with Russia on guarantees for the security of both countries, in which we will lay down the principles of the use of nuclear weapons and conventional weapons, as well as other methods of defense of both countries, which are part of the alliance country", Rizhenkov explained.

From "Kommersant" recall that Russia and Belarus signed the Treaty on the Creation of a Union State in 1999. It assumes the unification of the energy, transport and customs systems of the two countries.

In January, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko approved 15 documents for the development of the union state. These include decisions that relate to the foreign policy, security, industry, scientific and technological development of both countries.
