The US presidential candidate from Donald Trump's Republican Party expressed confidence that he can mediate the conclusion of a fair agreement to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
After his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, he shared his thoughts with the TV channel “Fox News”.
"I've learned a lot, but I don't think I've changed my view that we both want to see the war end and that we both want to see a fair settlement," Trump said. Meanwhile, he expressed confidence that such an agreement would be fair and concluded at the right time.
Although he is currently focused on his election campaign, Trump emphasized that, if he wins, a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will be reached “very quickly”.
„President Zelensky wants (the war) to end and I'm sure (Russian President) Putin also wants it to end, and that's a good combination. That's why we want a fair agreement for everyone," Trump stressed.
When asked what he meant by a “fair deal”, Trump said it was still too early to provide details, calling the situation a “complex puzzle“ that would be solved over time.
Also, Trump did not rule out the possibility of a new meeting with Zelensky in the near future.
Zelensky himself stressed after his meeting with Trump that a just peace was needed, saying he was counting on the US leadership to put pressure on Putin to end the war.
