Russia has rejected the possibility of nuclear talks with the United States because of Washington's stance on NATO expansion. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, quoted by "Reuters".
"We see no point in dialogue with Washington without respecting Russia's fundamental interests. First of all, it is the problem of NATO's expansion into the post-Soviet space, which creates threats to common security," she pointed out.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced yesterday that Russia would not discuss signing a new treaty with the United States to replace the agreement limiting each country's strategic nuclear weapons, which expires in 2026, as it is due to be expanded to include other countries.
