The claim by the head of Britain's MI5 security service that Russia's GRU military intelligence is out to wreak havoc in Britain and Europe is baseless and deserves to be ignored, the Kremlin spokesman said Dmitry Peskov, quoted by "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.
The head of MI5, Ken McCallum, said in a speech on Tuesday that the GRU was "on a sustained mission to generate chaos on British and European streets: we have seen arson, sabotage and more."
Peskov told reporters that Russia would not accept such claims, adding that they did not deserve attention.
"All these claims are absolutely baseless and unfounded," he said.
Against the background of the war in Ukraine, European countries and the NATO alliance have accused Russian spies of organizing a number of hostile activities on the continent in recent months.
In a joint Financial Times article last month, the heads of the US Central Intelligence Agency and Britain's MI6 foreign intelligence service said they were working together to thwart a "reckless sabotage campaign across Europe led by Russian intelligence and its cynical use of technology to spread lies and misinformation designed to drive wedges between us."
