The Washington administration is not yet discussing the possibility of transferring Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs) to US ownership. This was stated by the US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright to reporters after a meeting between the US President Donald Trump and his aides with the heads of the American energy companies.

“No, that is not being discussed now“, he answered when asked how the transfer of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the ownership of the US could be carried out.

“It was not discussed today“, Wright added about the meeting.

In a joint statement by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the National Security Advisor Mike Walz after the telephone conversation between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, they noted that the US side could help Ukraine with the operation of its nuclear power plants. The document emphasizes that: “President Trump also discussed the issues of electricity supplies and nuclear power plants in Ukraine. He said that the United States could provide great assistance in the operation of these plants, using its experience in the field of electricity and utilities. American ownership of these plants would be the best protection for this infrastructure and support for the Ukrainian energy infrastructure."
