The Greek coast guard carried out a rescue operation today in which they were rescued 53 migrants from a boat located 17 nautical miles south of the village of Kali Limenes in the southern part of the island of Crete, reported ANA-MPA, quoted by BTA.
A Coast Guard vessel reached the boat, picked up the migrants and began transferring them to Cali Limenes.
The migrants are expected to be sent to a temporary reception center in Heraklion on the island of Crete, the agency said.
