The curfew of the French the Caribbean island of Martinique, imposed due to protests, has been extended for another week, the local government announced, reports Reuters, quoted by BTA.
The administration of the island decided to extend the measure until October 21. Citizens are only allowed to travel or leave their homes for business or health reasons.
Initially, the restrictions, which also included a ban on the purchase of products used for arson, were supposed to expire on October 14, but the authorities decided to extend them to ensure the safety of the population and property.
French overseas territories such as Martinique, Guadeloupe and New Caledonia often become the scene of protests due to dissatisfaction with the lower standard of living compared to mainland France.
