Moscow's First Diplomat: The Change in Russian Foreign Policy After the Collapse of the Soviet Union Was a Huge Mistake - 1

The Complete Turn of Russian Foreign Policy Towards the West After the Collapse of the USSR Was a Mistake, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Said, RIA Novosti Reported.

"To my great regret, the leadership of the Russian Federation, after Russia became a sovereign state outside the Soviet Union, believed that the doors of the so-called Western civilization were open to it and everything else was irrelevant.

This was a strategic mistake. "Now it is recognized by everyone, including at the state level," Lavrov said, speaking at the presentation of the Department for Partnership with Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

At the same time, the Russian minister stressed that "the mistake served as a good lesson for the current Russian leadership and the current generation."
