Santorini continues to shake: 6,000 people have left the island, "there are not many Bulgarians at this time" - 1

Another restless night on Santorini. People are leaving the island and evacuating from the coast. The tremors continue, BNR reported.

In one day, 6 thousand Greeks and foreigners have left Santorini. Hundreds are waiting at the port to leave today. The planes are also booked. People are afraid, because the tremors have not stopped for 10 days now. Professor Evtimios Lekas, who heads the team at the island's Geodynamic Institute, reported that the earthquakes are becoming more frequent and the magnitude is increasing, which is an alarming signal and that the main earthquake, which is already expected to be above 6 on the Richter scale, has probably not yet passed.

"We have never observed such a phenomenon", the experts are categorical. The epicenter remains between the island of Amorgos and Santorini. All the islands of the Cyclades are affected by earthquakes, which are strongest on Santorini, due to its close proximity to the epicenter.

The measures are being strictly implemented. Police teams, firefighters, divers and air teams are on site. Rock slides continue, which have closed many roads. People living along the coast are being evacuated to higher ground in anticipation of a tsunami. Seismologists believe that the volcano will not activate if the tremors remain at the same level.

"The tremors continue. The power has not increased. We are waiting for news from the Civil Protection. Many people have left the island. The extraordinary flights of the airlines and shipping companies continue".

This was told to the Bulgarian National Radio by our compatriot Antoaneta Pushkarova, who lives on the Greek island of Santorini and for now does not plan to leave it after the earthquake there. In her words, "there is no panic". "There are not many Bulgarians on the island at this time. They usually come here for the season", she added to the picture.
