Around 50 tons of medical supplies provided by the European Union are expected to arrive in Syria on December 31, a World Health Organization representative said in Gaziantep, quoted by BNR.

The supplies were sent from Dubai via Turkey and are currently undergoing customs procedures in Istanbul. The aim is to support the healthcare system in Syria, which was overwhelmed during the years of civil war under President Bashar Assad.

The shipment, intended for the Idlib and Aleppo regions, includes 8,000 emergency surgical kits, anesthesia supplies, intravenous fluids, sterilization materials and medicines to control outbreaks.

It is part of the humanitarian bridge announced by Brussels on December 13. The initiative also envisages a second delivery of 46 tons, which will be sent from Denmark.
