Israeli air defenses intercepted a missile launched from Yemen in the early hours of today, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced, quoted by DPA and BTA.
The missile was shot down before it reached Israeli territory, the military said in a post on "Telegram".
The wail of air raid sirens echoed in dozens of Israeli cities, including the Jerusalem area and the Dead Sea region.
An air strike was launched against the Yemeni capital Sanaa, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a statement by the Houthis, who blamed the US and Britain for it.
According to a channel of the Iran-backed Yemeni rebels who control Sanaa, in The Telegram platform called the attack an "American and British aggression." There was no immediate reaction from Israel, the United States, or the United Kingdom. Residents of Sanaa confirmed they heard and felt the explosion. Israeli strikes on rebel-held sites, including Sanaa airport, bases, power plants, and port facilities in other parts of Yemen, killed six people yesterday. The Houthis described the attack as a "crime." Since the start of the Gaza war, sparked by Hamas' unprecedented attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, the Houthis have carried out numerous attacks on Israel and its ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, saying they were a sign of "solidarity" with the Palestinians. Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again warned that his country would continue to strike Yemeni rebels.
