Experts have extracted data from the cockpit voice recorder of the Jeju Air plane that crashed at Muan Airport on December 29 and are converting it into audio files. This was stated at a briefing by the director of the Civil Aviation Department of the South Korean Ministry of Transport, Joo Jeon-wang.

He added that the work will be done as quickly as possible. On December 29, 179 of the 181 people on board the Boeing 737-800 died, which became the largest air disaster in the territory of the Republic of Korea.

The second “black box“ has received external damage. This will increase the time required to decipher its data by about a month, South Korean experts believe. If both devices were not damaged, the decryption would have taken about a week.

If South Korean specialists have difficulty deciphering the black boxes, the devices can be handed over to their American counterparts from the National Transportation Safety Board. About 10 people from the organization and Boeing have arrived in Muan.
