Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kiev with drones on New Year's Eve, injuring at least three people, Reuters reported, citing city authorities, BTA reports.
The Russian attack in the early hours of the new year 2025 caused damage to buildings in at least two areas of the capital.
The air force has warned that drones are approaching the city, with air raid sirens sounding. Shortly after, the sky was lit up by explosions, Reuters reports.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Ukrainian air defenses had repelled enemy attacks and that debris from drones had caused fires in residential buildings, Reuters added.
Klitschko, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, said two floors of an apartment building were partially destroyed by a Russian strike.
Since the start of its invasion in February 2022, Russia has regularly carried out air strikes on populated areas in Ukraine that are far from the front line, Reuters reports.
