More than 100 people have died in a closed gold mine in South Africa, the Associated Press reported, citing a group defending the interests of miners, BTA reported.
Police said they were still verifying exactly how many bodies had been pulled out. The mine in the North West province has been closed.
However, many people were mining there illegally before they were blocked there for months. South African police have been trying to drive out the illegal miners since November.
