About 70 people were killed in an attack on the only functioning hospital in the besieged city of Al-Fasher in Sudan, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced today on the social platform "Ex", quoted by the Associated Press.
A similar number was also indicated on Saturday by officials in the capital of North Darfur province, but Ghebreyesus is the first international source to confirm the information.
„The heinous attack on the Saudi hospital in Al-Fasher, Sudan, resulted in 19 injuries and 70 deaths among patients and their companions. "At the time of the attack, the hospital was full of patients receiving care," the WHO director-general wrote.
He did not say who was responsible for the attack, but local officials blamed the rebel Rapid Support Forces. The group has not yet responded to the accusations, but its units have been threatening al-Fasher in recent days.
