A shootout between border guards and migrants broke out on the US-Mexico border, Fox News reports.
It is noted that a group of illegal immigrants tried to cross the border, as a result of which US Border Patrol officers opened fire and stopped them. According to the television channel, no one was injured.
The shootout took place near Fronton Island on the Rio Grande River, which forms the border between the United States and Mexico. According to preliminary information, the migrants involved in the shootout may be members of a drug cartel.
It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump has ordered a significant increase in the number of arrests of illegal immigrants by the Customs and Border Protection (ICE) Service - from several hundred to 1,500 detentions per day.
