A father in Pakistan killed his teenage daughter after she uploaded videos to the social network “TikTok“ that he deemed indecent, DPA reported.
The man, in his 50s, had recently returned with his family from the United States and settled in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta, local police chief Babar Baloch said.
The father, who is currently in custody, admitted to shooting his daughter earlier this week after she refused to dress more modestly and stop uploading videos to “TikTok“ that her family deemed “indecent,” he said Baloch.
Police are treating the incident as a case of so-called "honor killings."
About 1,000 women have been killed in Pakistan by close relatives - fathers, brothers and sons - in the name of protecting family honor, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) said.
In most cases, the killers escape punishment because of a controversial Islamic clause in the law that allows the victim's relatives to pardon the perpetrator, Amnesty International said.
In 2016, Pakistan passed a law that partially repealed the controversial clause, but that is still not enough to stop the practice, the HRCP said.
