Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to the idea of achieving peace in Ukraine, but this cannot happen as quickly as the US wants. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TASS and Reuters, BTA reported.
He said that very intensive work is being carried out with the US on Ukraine, but the conflict is so complex that the rapid progress that Washington wants is difficult to achieve. Peskov added that Russia has the necessary channels of contact with the US, which it has reopened.
The spokesman added that Russia is ready for direct talks with Ukraine without preconditions, but so far there has been no response from Kiev. “President Putin confirmed his readiness for direct negotiations with the Ukrainians without any preconditions”, Peskov said in English in response to a question from a foreign journalist. “This readiness is still valid. Unfortunately, we have not heard any statement or comment from Kiev. So we do not know whether Kiev is ready for this or not“, Peskov said.
The spokesman also said that Russia's duty is to win the conflict in Ukraine and achieve the goals set there. He added that what Russia is doing and all of Putin's decisions are absolutely correct.
Peskov made these statements during an event of the Russian educational society “Knowledge“.
Peskov also said that Russia is lucky to have Putin as president. The spokesman also announced that the “Rossiya“ channel will soon will broadcast a documentary about the Russian president, on which many talented people worked.
Peskov also announced that a significant number of heads of state and government will come to the parade in Moscow on May 9. However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be among them.
