Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin ordered not to pay the contribution to the European Economic Commission for last year.
Russia has also not paid its contributions for 2022 and 2023.
According to Putin, international organizations demonstrate a cynical attitude towards Russia. According to the head of state, they are unable to fulfill their tasks, which is why Moscow was forced to refuse cooperation.
In the spring of 2022, the UN General Assembly voted to suspend Russia's participation in the UN Human Rights Council due to the military offensive in Ukraine. In response, Moscow announced its withdrawal from the Council, calling the "American campaign for exclusion a theater of the absurd, as the United States has repeatedly violated the foundations of humanitarian law and does not meet the criteria for membership."
Soon after, Russia's membership was suspended by the World Tourism Organization. Moscow withdrew from it in June. The Foreign Ministry stressed that the EU countries had practically monopolized the organization, used it for their own interests and were pushing a political solution that Moscow viewed as an illegal and politically motivated step aimed at demonstrative punishment.
The Economic Commission for Europe is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations, established in 1947 to promote economic activity and strengthen ties with the rest of the world.
