More military, financial and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, as well as more diplomatic pressure in its support, called for European Parliament President Roberta Metsola during today's plenary session in Strasbourg, France.
“The defense of Ukraine is also the defense of Europe. This is not just an attack on Ukraine, it is an attack on democracy“, Metsola said during today's session in Strasbourg, dedicated to the impact of Russia's three-year war against Ukraine.
Three years ago, Russia launched its brutal and unprovoked war against Ukraine. We have seen how the Ukrainian people fought bravely with unwavering determination to defend their country and their freedom. I am proud that the European Parliament has stood by Ukraine from day one, absolutely unwaveringly, said the President of the European Parliament.
To address the MEPs in the European Parliament is Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Our partnership with the Verkhovna Rada has been crucial for deepening our ties and preparing Ukraine for membership in the European Union. We will continue to insist that there must be peace. But not just any peace. Peace must be fair, preserve the dignity of the Ukrainian people and be based on the principle of “Nothing for Ukraine without Ukraine”, Metsola noted before Stefanchuk's speech.
"For this, Ukraine must be in a strong position. Europe must do more – more financial aid, more military aid, more diplomatic pressure and more humanitarian aid,” said the President of the European Parliament.
