A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook Morocco, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reports. The quake was registered at 11:48 p.m. local time in the northern Moroccan province of Ouezan, Morocco's National Institute of Geophysics reported at noon.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the municipality of Briksha, 200 kilometers northeast of the capital Rabat, where it was felt strongly.
Authorities reported no casualties or serious damage, but the tremor caused panic among residents who took to the streets in several cities, including Rabat.
Morocco still remembers the devastating earthquake of September 8, 2023 with a magnitude of 6.8, which killed nearly 3,000 people and injured 5,600.
According to the publication "Portugal News", the current quake was also felt in the Algarve province of Portugal, where it had a magnitude of 4.9.
