Kalfin: Europe can hardly rely on the US in any area at the moment - 1

JD Vance's speech was aggressive and even hooligan. The structure on which Europe's security has been developing for the last 80 years is being rearranged because of the US. Europe increasingly has to rely on itself. It can do it, it is especially good in the economic part. Europe can hardly rely on the US in any area at the moment. This was stated on bTV by Ivailo Kalfin, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Social Policy, quoted by novini.bg.
„The problem is that Donald Trump chose a different policy. He replaced the long-term goals on which the security structure in Europe was based with short-term interests. Whatever his motives, it is obvious that the US is going in a different direction. Europe works differently, there is no need to copy America,“ he believes.
In his words, Europe is strong enough on its own. “There were strong enough responses during the Covid pandemic, when millions of jobs were saved. Yes, there are Fico and Orban, who are noisy in the media, but I would not underestimate Europe's capabilities. It needs to strengthen its economy, but this is the biggest market that everyone wants to sell to.“

Regarding the tariffs that Trump is talking about, Kalfin specified: “The imposition of tariffs will severely affect the American economy. Steel and aluminum will hit the American auto industry. Trump is using tariffs as a threat, there is no long-term interest in this.“

“Another issue is the topic of Ukraine. A meeting between the US and Russia is starting in Saudi Arabia. This is not negotiations, but a meeting. "At least Ukraine must participate in negotiations, and it has not been invited. The war must stop in such a way that there are guarantees that it will not start again. These guarantees can only be given by the international community. Only in this way will the conflict be resolved. Europe helps as much as it can and as much as Ukraine wants, but there are no Europeans at the front, there is no way Europe can enter and win the war," he added.
