The US and Russia have not yet appointed their special envoys to be responsible for bilateral negotiations on the conflict in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing a statement by Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, BTA reports.
On the air of the Russian television channel Rossiya 1, Ushakov specified that the US will have a separate representative or group of negotiators for contacts with Russia on this issue. Special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg will work mainly with Kiev and Europe. A separate delegation will also be formed on the Russian side, added the adviser to President Vladimir Putin, quoted by TASS.
"They have already appointed a special envoy for Ukraine - Keith Kellogg, but he will lead contacts with the Ukrainians and the Europeans. "A separate representative or a group of special representatives will be appointed for our Russian-American contacts," Ushakov explained after the talks in Saudi Arabia.
According to him, Russia will be informed about the special envoys appointed by the United States. After that, President Vladimir Putin will appoint the Russian representatives who will participate in bilateral contacts with Washington on issues related to Ukraine.
