A spokesman for the Vatican's Swiss Guard has denied earlier rumors that preparations were being made for Pope Francis' funeral, Swiss newspaper Blick reported.
It was previously reported that the guard had already begun active preparations for the funeral and had been placed under a curfew. However, a Vatican spokesman later denied the claim.
“We continue to work as usual“, the official said, confirming that the guard was operating without changes.
The 88-year-old pontiff has been hospitalized since February 14. He has been ordered to take complete rest: all events involving him have been canceled until the end of the week. The hospitalization may be extended, the Vatican says. It is also reported that Francis is in good spirits, praying and reading newspapers.
