German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock has revealed her personal experience of sexual assault, saying she clearly remembers the incident even decades later, DPA reported, BTA reports.
In the podcast “G Spot mit Stefanie Giesinger“, published yesterday, Berbock said that the #MeToo movement had made her reflect on her own experience with sexual harassment.
She recounted an incident from her school days when an older man touched her leg while she was riding a bus. She was so shocked that she didn't get off for five more stops.
“I was so scared that I didn't even tell my mother. Even though I had supposedly forgotten that moment, I still see it clearly in my mind“, admitted the 44-year-old minister.
Berbock stressed that she had felt shame for many years, but insisted that “shame must change its addressee“. She said that she had experienced many similar incidents and that it was important to talk about them openly.
In the podcast, the German foreign minister also commented on feminist foreign policy and her political career.
