A total of 144 illegal migrants were detained during a specialized police operation in Turkey, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced, quoted by TRT Haber, BTA reports.
The operation was carried out simultaneously in 27 districts, with law enforcement agencies checking the personal documents of over 8,000 people.
For the purposes of the operation, 96 mobile points equipped with computers connected to the “GöçNET“ system, which contains a database of refugees, as well as fingerprinting devices, have been deployed. Migration specialists and translators worked at the checkpoints to ensure the effective conduct of the checks, the minister specified.
The captured migrants have been redirected to temporary accommodation centers, and an extradition procedure has been initiated against them, Yerlikaya added.
