Volodymyr Zelensky does not want to sign the agreement with the US on rare earth metals, because, according to him, 10 generations of Ukrainians will pay for it.
According to Zelensky, US President Donald Trump wants to receive from Ukraine 100% more than the aid they provided.
"I just want a dialogue with President Trump. "I'm not signing something that will be paid for by 10 generations of Ukrainians," Zelensky said at a press conference in Kiev.
He continues to insist that the document include security guarantees from Washington.
On February 21, US National Security Advisor Mike Walz said that Zelensky would sign an agreement with the United States on rare earth elements in Ukraine and that this would happen "in the near future."
As early as early February, Trump announced that Washington was interested in obtaining rare earth metals from Ukraine. On February 12, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant handed Zelensky the text of the minerals agreement in Kiev. Zelensky did not sign it either during a meeting with Besant or later in Munich during a meeting with US Vice President J. D. Vance.
Zelensky noted that there were no security guarantees in the proposed agreement. The Ukrainian delegation submitted the text with its own amendments, which the Americans in Munich did not take into account.
