Forty-six people have died when a Sudanese army plane crashed in a residential area near the military airport in the city of Omdurman, Reuters reported, citing the Khartoum state media service, BTA reports.
According to military sources, a senior commander was among the victims, who according to unconfirmed information is Major General Bahr Ahmed, a former army commander for the entire capital.
The crash occurred late last night near the Wadi Saidna military airport, located in the northern part of Omdurman. The Sudanese army confirmed that both soldiers and civilians were among the dead, but did not provide further details.
Military sources said that the cause of the crash was likely technical problems. According to media reports, 10 people were injured in the incident.
