The United States has officially authorized Moscow to appoint Alexander Darchiev as its new ambassador to Washington, reports "Reuters".
The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that the American side handed over an official note on the appointment of Darchiev during negotiations with Russia in Istanbul yesterday.
Darchiev, who is currently the head of the "North American" department of the Foreign Ministry, will soon leave for Washington.
Moscow has not had an envoy to the United States since the last ambassador left his post in October.
