Clashes continue in the center of Athens between police and masked individuals after the demonstration on the occasion of the second anniversary of the train accident at the Tempe Pass, in which hundreds of thousands of people participated today, ANA-MPA reported, BTA reports.
Nine people were injured in the clashes and were taken to hospital. Among the injured was ANA-MPA photojournalist Orestis Panagiotou.
84 people were taken to the police station, of whom 41 remain in custody.
The incidents began after a group of masked individuals began throwing Molotov cocktails, stones, bottles and other objects at the police forces. Police responded with tear gas and stun grenades, and according to Sky TV, water cannons were also used.
Due to the stifling atmosphere in the center of Athens, the guards – Evzones in front of the parliament entered the building.
Members of the anarchist group "Rubicon" broke into the building of the railway carrier "Hellenic Train" and hung a banner with slogans on the roof terrace. Special forces police entered the building and detained 25 people, Sky reported.
The clashes between the police and masked individuals continue in many places in the city, and broken shop windows are also reported.
