Interim President of Romania Ilie Bologian said that Romania will not send soldiers to a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, but will participate in the meeting of the Chiefs of General Staff on March 11 in Paris, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, reports Digi 24 TV, quoted by BTA.
After the extraordinary summit of the Council of the EU yesterday, the interim president of Romania said that there will be a meeting of defense ministers and chiefs of general staff in Paris, which will analyze the possibility of providing a zone of support and security guarantees after a peace agreement is reached in Ukraine.
„I think that the representatives of Romania will participate. Not because we will send soldiers to the field, because we will not send soldiers to the field - to be completely clear, but because Romania is still a logistics hub today, so that these soldiers can arrive (…)“, said Bologhian.
He recalled that Romania is also a logistics hub for Ukraine's exports.
“So, from the point of view of military logistics, Romania's presence will be necessary to know what the thinking is and whether there will be elements that concern the use of our infrastructure - military bases, for example, on the territory of Romania or elements of other military infrastructure - ports, airports. "It is logical that the representatives of the Ministry of Defense should know these aspects," said Ilie Bolozhan, quoted by Digi 24.
The meeting of the chiefs of general staff of European countries that are ready to participate in a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire agreement with Russia will be held in Paris on March 11 in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron.
A representative of the British government announced yesterday that talks were held with about 20 countries that are interested in participating in the so-called "coalition of the willing" to send a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire agreement with Russia. At the same time, Moscow refused to accept the deployment of soldiers from European countries in Ukraine, Digi 24 notes.
