Russian tanker suffers accident! New oil spill accident in Tatar Strait - 1

"Another oil tanker accident occurred in Russia, leading to a spill of oil products in the Tatar Strait off the coast of Sakhalin. Due to the war, Moscow is unable to maintain the vessels". This is what the Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC) of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine wrote in Telegram, RBC-Ukraine reports.

As noted by the CDC, three months ago a similar incident with sea pollution occurred off the coast of Kamchatka. And the incident that led to the sinking of two tankers in the Kerch Strait last December caused a large-scale environmental disaster, the consequences of which the Russian authorities are still unable to overcome.

According to the CPC, incidents involving Russian oil tankers have recently become systematic, creating serious environmental risks around the world. The reason for this phenomenon is the inability of the Russian state to provide proper maintenance of ships in the face of the huge costs of the war in Ukraine and sanctions.

In 2022, the EU imposed a ban on imports of Russian oil and, together with the G7, set a price ceiling on international sales of crude oil from Moscow, hoping to reduce the Kremlin's revenues after the invasion of Ukraine.

"But Russia soon found ways to circumvent these measures. Moscow's shadow fleet, which often relies on dubious insurers to circumvent oil price restrictions, now accounts for up to 17% of all oil tankers in the world. As a result, the shadow fleet now transports more than 80% of all Russian crude. To this end, Moscow uses old tankers that do not meet modern environmental requirements," the Ukrainian media wrote.
