Digi24 TV reported on record prices for parking spaces in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca. In its article on the topic, the media outlet notes that a garage can cost as much as a car or as much as a studio apartment in a small, provincial town in the country.
There are cases in which prices exceed 25,000 euros. They vary depending on the area and whether the parking lot is underground or not. The prices of outdoor parking spaces in residential areas can reach 10 thousand euros, while those of underground parking spaces vary between 15 and 25 thousand euros, depending on the area in which the building is located, but also on the stage of construction.
“Prices vary between 10-12-14-15 thousand euros plus VAT, if sold by the developer, this means a net price of 17-18 thousand euros including VAT. But there are also situations in which there are resales and prices reach 20 thousand. In the end, people pay more for parking than for the car they own”, broker Sorin Sucala told Digi 24.
For comparison, the rates in other large cities in Romania, such as Bucharest or Constanta, for example, vary between 5 thousand and 20 thousand euros.
“It is very expensive. The prices are inflated. "I have to work for almost five years just to get a parking space, plus an apartment. It's a lot, but that's the economy in Cluj. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do, the rent prices are huge, the parking prices are huge," a driver from Cluj-Napoca tells Digi24.
Cluj-Napoca also remains the city with the most expensive apartments in Romania. The square meter there reaches almost 3,000 euros. In December, the average price of a studio apartment (40 sq m) was 118,008 euros, a two-room apartment (55 sq m) - 162,261 euros, and a three-room apartment (75 sq m) - 221,265 euros.
According to an analysis cited by the website economedia.ro, apartment prices and rents in the city, also known as the “Silicon Valley of Transylvania”, have seen an impressive increase of over 700 percent compared to 25 years ago. In 2000, a two-room apartment in Cluj-Napoca cost 18,900 euros. Today, a similar apartment sells for around 158,900 euros.
