It is not enough for France to be the only country in the EU with nuclear weapons, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever said today, quoted by local media, BTA reports.
According to him, additional efforts are needed to create a pan-European “nuclear umbrella“ that would guarantee the security of all member states.
De Wever called for more understanding towards Poland and the Baltic republics, which are in close proximity to the Russian military threat. He stressed the need for a unified European vision for the development of tactical and ballistic nuclear weapons.
Earlier this month, French President Emmanuel Macron said that France was ready to provide its nuclear potential for the defense of all of Europe. After Britain left the EU, France remained the only country in the union with its own nuclear arsenal.
