Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga and his Portuguese counterpart Paulo Rangel, who arrived in Kiev on a visit, agreed to strengthen defense cooperation and increase assistance from Lisbon to Ukraine, Ukrinform reported, BTA reports.
The focus of our conversation was on further support for Ukraine. In this context, we discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of defense, the supply of military equipment and resources, as well as Portugal's participation in the coalition aimed at strengthening Ukrainian defense capabilities,“ said Sibiga.
He stressed the urgent need to increase assistance to Ukraine and stressed that the unity of the allies is crucial for the future of Europe and the security architecture of the continent.
Sibiga informed his Portuguese counterpart about the results of the recent Ukrainian-American meeting in the Saudi city of Jeddah and expressed gratitude to Portugal for its support for Kiev's pursuit of a just peace.
“We also welcome Portugal's willingness to consider different ways to participate in the development and implementation of security guarantees for Ukraine,“ added Sibiga.
The two diplomats also discussed the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and agreed to use the ties in Lisbon with Portuguese-speaking countries to deepen dialogue with African and Latin American countries.
Earlier today, Sibiga also met with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
