US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social the elimination of one of the leaders of the "Islamic State" group in Iraq.
“Today, the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed after being relentlessly pursued by our brave soldiers“, Trump wrote. He noted that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Iraqi government and the authorities of Iraqi Kurdistan.
On March 14, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief Mohammed al-Sudani announced the elimination of one of the leaders of the Islamic State, nicknamed Abu Khadija. According to him, the Iraqi security forces carried out this operation with the support of international coalition forces.
ISIS fighters occupied about a third of the territory of Iraq in the summer of 2014. In 2015, with the support of an international coalition, Iraqi government forces launched a large-scale campaign to liberate areas captured by extremists. In December 2017, the then Prime Minister of the Republic, Haider al-Abadi, announced the final defeat of ISIS. However, security services continue to carry out operations in various parts of the country to completely destroy the terrorist organization, whose members carry out attacks on law enforcement officers, military personnel and civilians.
