Finnish President Alexander Stubb said he had not heard any serious talks in the US administration about a possible US withdrawal from NATO. He made the statement shortly after his surprise meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
“I have not yet heard from any serious politician in the US administration - and I emphasize: anyone serious - talking about anything related to withdrawing from NATO“, Stubb said during an event at the London School of Economics.
The Finnish president stressed that Trump's approach to NATO is aimed at strengthening the commitments of European countries. “What President Trump is doing is right. "He is urging European countries to increase their defense spending and take responsibility for their own security," he added.
Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO's European members, urging them to increase their defense spending and questioning U.S. financial support for the alliance.
