Leader of the parliamentary group of the French National Rally party Marine Le Pen refused to discuss the possibility of nominating another candidate from her political association in the 2027 presidential election.
“I will ask the appeals court to allow me to run for president“, she said on TF1.
She said she intended to fight for a review of the court decision that barred her from participating in the election.
“I intend to fight“, she stressed. “I will not allow myself to be eliminated in this way.
Le Pen added that she believed that the appeals court would review the verdict and would not ask French President Emmanuel Macron for a pardon.
“No and no again, because a pardon affects the final decision, but the case is not at this stage“, she replied when asked if she would ask the head of state to pardon her.
“It is a political decision“, she said. “March 31 was a black day for French democracy. According to her, “the principles of the rule of law were completely violated by the decision taken“. “The verdict does not allow for an effective appeal, as required by the European Convention on Human Rights“, Le Pen noted.
