Some forces are trying to sow discord between Russia and the United States, said Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev, who is visiting Washington this week, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
"Today, many forces are interested in maintaining tension, which prevents the restoration of constructive cooperation. These forces are deliberately distorting Russia's position and hindering dialogue, sparing neither means nor resources," Dmitriev said on Telegram. He stressed that opponents of Moscow-Washington rapprochement fear that the two sides could find common ground and build a better understanding both on international issues and in the economy. "Restoring dialogue is a complex and gradual process. However, every meeting and every frank conversation brings us closer to progress," the Russian representative added. Dmitriev also pointed out that a real understanding of Russia's position could create new opportunities for constructive cooperation, including in the field of investment and the economy. Last week, he was invited to visit Washington by Steve Witkoff, who is US President Donald Trump's special envoy.
