If demobilization is carried out without providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with the necessary number of trained mobilized personnel, a third of the army will be lost, said the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, General Oleksandr Syrsky, in an interview with the publication "Lyav bryag" (Livyi Bereg), quoted by Ukrinform, writes BTA.
"When last year the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) raised the issue of including the issue of demobilization in the law on mobilization and providing the opportunity for demobilization to those who had served for three years, we calculated that in April of this year, from the entire composition of the groups that we had at the front, about 350,000 people would be immediately discharged. In fact, we would lose a third of the army," explained Sirsky.
As reported by Ukrinform, on April 11, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on mobilization. It was supported by 283 deputies in the 450-member parliament. By adopting the law, the Ukrainian parliament obliged the government (Ministry of Defense) to draft a bill on demobilization within eight months. The Ministry of Defense was supposed to prepare the relevant draft law by December 18.
On January 10, First Deputy Minister of Defense Ivan Gavrylyuk said that the draft law on demobilization during martial law has already been developed by the government and is ready to be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, but it is necessary to develop a number of mechanisms for replacing the large number of people who will be subject to the legislation.
The Ministry of Defense requested that the deadline for registering the bill be extended to March 18, Ukrinform notes.
