At least six people were hospitalized after a shooting at Florida State University, with police already detaining a suspected perpetrator, media reported, quoted by Reuters.
The shooting took place at noon in the Student Council building on the university campus in the state capital Tallahassee.
Students and faculty were instructed to hide while police dealt with the incident. More than 42,000 students attend classes on the main campus.
Police detained a suspect shortly after the shooting, reported to "CNN" two law enforcement sources familiar with the situation.
Police did not immediately confirm the reports of a shooting.
At least four people were admitted to Memorial Healthcare, WCTV in Tallahassee reported. The hospital did not say how many people were injured or whether any patients had gunshot wounds.
In an earlier statement, the hospital said it was caring for patients admitted after an incident at Florida State University and that the situation was evolving and there was no specific information on the number of patients or their conditions.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the shooting at the University of Florida and would provide more information about the incident later. "It's unfortunate, it's a terrible thing, it's terrible that things like this happen," Trump said.
