USA or China? Who will prevail in the global game of nerves

China retaliated against the United States after President Donald Trump imposed another round of new tariffs on the country, announcing that it would raise tariffs on American goods to 84%, Bloomberg reports.

Beijing earlier announced the introduction of an additional 50% tariff on goods from the United States, with Chinese countermeasures taking effect on April 10, the publication writes, citing a statement from the Chinese government.

China's actions prompted Donald Trump's next tariff hike, which took effect on April 9, with the total tariff rate for China reaching 104%.

On April 8, China's Ministry of Commerce promised to "fight to the end" if the United States insists on new tariffs.

China also added six US companies to its list of unreliable entities and 12 US companies to its export control list.

As reported, on April 2, Donald Trump announced the introduction of new trade tariffs against almost all countries in the world.

The minimum tariff was 10%, including for Ukraine.

For China, the new tariff was initially 34%, but taking into account the 20% tariff imposed on the PRC in March for its alleged role in supplying fentanyl to America, the total tariffs for China were 54%.

In response, on April 4, China imposed a 34% tariff on all goods from the United States and also announced that it would introduce export control measures on seven types of rare earth metals, which are used in the creation of high-tech products, such as computer chips. In particular, this applies to gadolinium and yttrium.

So far, there are no signs that either side will be the first to give in and make a compromise, accepting the tariffs without complaint. Only the future will tell who will be the winner in this game of nerves, who will emerge victorious from this trade war - China or the USA!
