Russia executes four Ukrainian soldiers, Kiev describes killings as 'grave war crime' - 1

The authorities in Kiev said they were investigating the alleged killing of four Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces, DPA reported, BTA reported.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubynets said the prisoners of war were likely killed last month in the southern Ukrainian village of Pyatikhatki. As in previous cases, Ukrainian authorities base their claims on videos posted on social media, DPA notes.

"They have no weapons. They come out of the building with their hands raised to surrender. They were shot on the spot," Lubynets wrote on the social media "Ex". He stressed that "this is a clear violation of the Geneva Convention and a grave war crime".

Lubinets announced on the "Telegram" app that he would request that the case be investigated by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN.

The Russian armed forces have been repeatedly accused of killing prisoners of war, DPA recalls. In an interview conducted in mid-December, Lubinets put the number of confirmed cases of killed prisoners of war since the beginning of the war at 177 and indicated that they were growing rapidly.

Meanwhile, it became clear that Kiev will receive new military aid from the UK in the amount of 450 million British pounds. The aid will finance the repair and maintenance of military vehicles and equipment, as well as the purchase of radar systems, anti-personnel mines and thousands of drones.
