Acting German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said upon his arrival at NATO headquarters for a meeting of the contact group on arms supplies to Ukraine that he does not expect peace to be achieved in the foreseeable future.
He announced that the Bundestag has approved the allocation of 11 billion euros by 2029 to help Kiev in addition to the already promised support.
This year, according to him, Germany will transfer four more IRIS-T systems, 300 guided missiles and 100 radars to Kiev. In addition, the aid package will include 15 Leopard 1A5 tanks, 300 reconnaissance drones, 25 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 14 artillery pieces and about 100,000 artillery shells.
Germany is the second largest supplier of weapons to Ukraine after the United States. Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Germany has provided Kiev with various types of aid worth around 44 billion euros.
The UK will provide Ukraine with 450 million British pounds ($590 million), the UK Ministry of Defence has announced.
£350 million of this amount has already been included in the record £4.5 billion military aid package for Kiev planned for this year.
£160 million of the amount announced on April 11 will go "to repair and maintain machinery and equipment previously provided to Ukraine".
„Today's package includes close combat assistance, funding for radar systems, anti-tank mines and hundreds of thousands of drones worth more than £250 million, using funds from the UK and Norway,“ the British ministry said.
