Russian air defense forces have destroyed seven Ukrainian drones over the Ivanovo region - the location of one of the two missile brigades that Kiev accuses of a deadly attack on the city of Sumy, Reuters reported.
Ukrainian military intelligence agency GUR named Russia's 112th missile brigade, which according to publicly available information is based in the city of Shuya in Ivanovo region, as responsible for the attack on Sumy on Sunday, which killed at least 35 people and was strongly condemned in the West.
The Russian Defense Ministry, which claims that the attack in Sumy was aimed at a meeting of Ukrainian military personnel, said that the attempted Ukrainian strike on Ivanovo today was carried out this morning by drones.
The missile brigade based in the region is not mentioned, but local media reported that this was the intended target.
"According to operational data from the headquarters, there were no deaths, and two slightly injured people were provided with medical assistance," the local government of Ivanovo region reported.
"The emergency notification system is working normally. No evacuation has been announced. Emergency services are dealing with the aftermath.
Yesterday, the Ukrainian military reported that it had hit a base in Russia's Kursk region belonging to the 448th Missile Brigade - the other brigade that Kiev has accused of taking part in the Sumy attack.
The same day, Russia said it had intercepted or destroyed 109 Ukrainian drones over the region overnight. An elderly woman was killed in the Ukrainian attack.
