A 65-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of disturbing public order and racially motivated harassment after a number of British MPs received offensive letters containing excrement, reported “Politico“, BTA reports.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, the arrest was made on April 9, and the man was subsequently released on bail. The incident is linked to five letters sent to members of parliament in the period January - February 2025.

The police informed the MPs' offices via an internal email that an investigation is underway into “a series of offensive letters believed to have been sent by the same sender“. It was specified that the letters are “distinctive in that they contain excrement“.

Investigators are calling on all affected MPs to cooperate. The House of Commons declined to comment, citing the ongoing police investigation.

Adding further tension is a revelation by an anonymous MP, quoted by “Politico“, that he received a letter with blood on it, although it is still unclear whether the incident is related to the other cases.

In recent years, the security of British parliamentarians has come under serious attention due to increased cases of threats and abuse - an issue that is at the center of an ongoing investigation led by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle.
