French fighters have arrived in the combat zone in Ukraine to fight on the side of Russia, VGTRK military correspondent Alexander Rogatkin reported on the air of the "Russia-1" television channel.
"A detachment of French volunteers with the legendary name "Normandy-Neman" is fighting under the famous red flag with leopards and white lightning bolts," the journalist said in his report.
The commander of the Normandy-Neman detachment, Sergei Meunier, was born and raised in Luhansk, but spent his childhood in France, where he was also a soldier. In 2014, he returned to fight on the side of the DPR, the military noted correspondent.
“The most important thing is that now I have Russian citizenship, all my efforts are recognized on this land, my native land“, Meunier told reporters.
A French volunteer with the call sign Gauthier told Rogatkin that he was gaining experience working with drones in Russia. “The training is very different from what happens in Western armies,“ he noted.
Meunier added that the foreigners fighting there “are idealistic people who don't care about the pay.
