Iran repels major cyberattack after explosion at strategic port - 1

Iran repelled a major cyberattack against its infrastructure yesterday, Reuters reported, citing the head of the Iranian Infrastructure Communications Company, BTA reports.

The news of the cyberattack came a day after a powerful explosion damaged the country's most important cargo port and amid a new round of talks with the United States over Tehran's nuclear program.

"One of the largest and most sophisticated cyberattacks on the country's infrastructure has been registered, and preventive measures have been taken," Behzad Akbari was quoted as saying by the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim, without providing further details.

Tehran and Washington concluded a third round of talks in Oman on Saturday - the same day a large explosion rocked Iran's largest port, Shahid Rajaee, near the city of Bandar Abbas.

The blast is believed to have occurred in a chemical storage facility on the port's premises, but the exact cause is still unclear. The Iranian Ministry of Defense denied claims in international media that the incident may have been related to improper handling of solid fuel used for missiles.
