Russia also agrees to an unconditional ceasefire, but "we want guarantees that the ceasefire will not be used again to strengthen the Ukrainian army and that arms supplies must stop.

This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with CBS News.

The journalist told Lavrov that Kiev had accepted the US proposal for a complete ceasefire back on March 11, but Moscow had set conditions.

"No, these are not preconditions," Lavrov said. - "These are lessons we have learned at least three times when deals similar to the one we are discussing now were concluded", he pointed out.

The Russian foreign minister was referring to the ceasefire agreements reached in Minsk, which Kiev and Moscow accuse each other of violating.

Lavrov reiterated that for a new ceasefire to be concluded, the West must refuse to supply weapons to Ukraine. Earlier, Kiev and its European allies called this condition unacceptable, since Ukraine would be defenseless in the face of an aggressor.

"The Ukrainian regime has strong support from European capitals and from the administration of former US President Joe Biden. "If you want to establish a ceasefire and just continue to supply weapons to Ukraine, what is your goal?"

Lavrov said that Europe "has explicitly stated that it can only support a deal that will ultimately make Ukraine stronger, make it a winner."

"So if that is the goal of this ceasefire, I don't think that's what President Trump wants. That's what the Europeans, together with Zelensky, want to do with President Trump's initiative," Lavrov said.

He was also asked whether Russia was ready to comply with the request of US President Donald Trump, who called on Vladimir Putin to "stop" following the recent massive missile strikes on Kiev.

On the night of April 24, the Russian military launched a combined drone and missile strike on the Ukrainian capital, destroying an entire residential area. Twelve civilians were killed and more than 90 were injured.

Trump then wrote on the social network "Truth": "Vladimir, STOP!". A few days later, after meeting with the Ukrainian president in the Vatican, the White House chief also called the strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine unacceptable and expressed suspicions that Putin did not really want peace.

"We will continue to strike targets used by the Ukrainian army, some mercenaries from other countries and instructors," Lavrov said.

In response to a direct question about whether the strike on Kiev was a mistake, Lavrov said: "This was a target used by the Ukrainian army, by the Ministry of Defense, the commanders on the battlefield have the right to attack them."

There was no evidence or confirmation that military targets were hit in the strike on Kiev. Judging by the published footage and eyewitness accounts, the Russian missiles hit a residential area in Kiev.
